April Showers Bring May Flowers . . .

Is one of our favorite sayings over at MUCHOMAS.  Not just because it marks the beginning of spring, and not just because it spawned a great cheesy joke (Mayflowers bring pilgrims!), but also because the pollination of cacao flowers is an integral part of the circle of life on Giff’s Finca.

On the Finca, empty cacao pods play two important roles.  First, as Giff explains below, empty pods are used to help fertilize other cacao trees.

Second, empty pods serve as breeding grounds for midges that help pollinate other cacao trees.
